As part of its World Environment Day celebrations, Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) launched a series of creative competitions and public awareness initiatives aimed at promoting environmental protection and sustainability. A quiz and painting competition for school children was organized at Jubilee Hall, Koyla Nagar, attracting enthusiastic participation from more than 150 students from various schools across the city.

The program was conducted in two sessions. The first session featured a quiz competition for students from Classes V to XII, where participants showcased their knowledge of environmental conservation, climate change, biodiversity, and sustainable development through a series of multiple-choice questions.

The second session comprised a painting competition, in which students were divided into different age groups to express their understanding of environmental issues through art. Children in Group A (Classes II to V) creatively depicted various themes related to nature and environmental conservation. Participants in Group B conveyed the message of environmental stewardship through paintings based on the theme “Our Earth, Our Future.” Students in Group C (Classes VI to IX) demonstrated their awareness and creativity on the concept of the Three Rs — Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse, highlighting the importance of sustainable living practices.

Throughout the event, students displayed remarkable enthusiasm and awareness regarding environmental protection. Through their paintings and quiz responses, the participants effectively communicated the significance of preserving natural resources, maintaining a clean environment, and adopting eco-friendly lifestyles.

BCCL has been consistently organizing such creative and awareness-oriented programs every year on the occasion of World Environment Day, reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement. The events witness active participation from BCCL employees, their families, school children, and members of the local community.

This year, BCCL has scheduled several additional activities focusing on environmental conservation and climate change awareness. Upcoming events include essay writing competitions, green cooking contests, and fancy eco-dress competitions.

The winners of all competitions will be announced and felicitated during BCCL’s main World Environment Day celebration on June 5, 2026, where they will receive awards and certificates in recognition of their efforts.

A large number of parents, along with officials and employees of BCCL’s Environment Department, were present during the event and appreciated the active participation and environmental consciousness displayed by the young students.

Reinforcing its commitment to quality education and scientific learning, NTPC Limited Bongaigaon has inaugurated a Mobile Science Lab at Salakati M.E. School in Kokrajhar district under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

The initiative was inaugurated by Suprava Roy in the presence of officials from the Education Department, representatives of Seva Bharati Purvanchal, school authorities, teachers, students and NTPC Bongaigaon officials.

Implemented at an estimated cost of ₹58 lakh, the Mobile Science Lab aims to enhance science education through practical, activity-based learning and hands-on experimentation. The project is designed to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world scientific application, especially in schools with limited laboratory facilities.

Starting from Kokrajhar district, the Mobile Science Lab will reach 60 schools across Kokrajhar, Chirang and Bongaigaon districts, enabling students to participate in scientific experiments, interactive demonstrations and curriculum-based learning activities. The mobile facility is equipped with scientific models, experiment kits and educational tools that make science more engaging and accessible for young learners.

Speaking on the occasion, Suprava Roy appreciated NTPC Bongaigaon’s efforts and underscored the importance of experiential learning in nurturing scientific temper among students. She noted that practical exposure to science at an early stage can spark curiosity, creativity and innovation while encouraging students to explore careers in science and technology.

Representatives of Seva Bharati Purvanchal highlighted that the Mobile Science Lab would travel from school to school, allowing students to conduct experiments and observe scientific concepts in action. The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen science education in rural and semi-urban areas by supplementing conventional classroom teaching.

NTPC Bongaigaon officials stated that education remains a key focus area of the station’s CSR activities. Through initiatives such as the Mobile Science Lab, the company aims to create meaningful learning opportunities, promote innovation and contribute to the holistic development of students across the region.

The project reflects NTPC’s broader commitment to empowering future generations through education, knowledge-sharing and skill development.

In a meaningful grassroots initiative, NMDC Limited has launched Summer Camps across 17 villages in Dantewada district, bringing learning, creativity, and joy to tribal children during their summer vacations. The camps, running from May 20 to June 15, 2026, are set to benefit around 1,700 children.

Designed to promote experiential learning and holistic development, the initiative is already witnessing enthusiastic participation. Currently, each village camp records a daily attendance of 30 to 40 children, with ongoing mobilisation efforts aimed at increasing participation further.

Children spend three to four engaging hours every day immersed in a mix of educational and recreational activities. From reading sessions and craftwork to music workshops, the camps provide a creative platform for expression. These sessions are followed by energetic outdoor games such as frisbee, kabaddi, and kho-kho, fostering teamwork and physical fitness. The day concludes with the distribution of healthy refreshments, ensuring both learning and well-being.

The camps are being implemented in collaboration with WOSCA, an organisation dedicated to education and community development. Together, they are creating a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment for children in the Bastar region.

In areas where access to structured creative learning opportunities remains limited, NMDC’s initiative is bridging a critical gap. By nurturing creativity, confidence, and social skills at the grassroots level, the program is helping children from underserved communities grow into self-assured individuals.

The initiative is also witnessing growing community engagement, with positive response from parents, local stakeholders, and village communities. As the camps expand in the coming weeks, NMDC continues to encourage greater participation to make this a vibrant and enriching summer for the children of Dantewada.

In a major step towards educational empowerment and inclusive social development, Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) has launched its flagship initiative “CCL Vidya Saarthi”, aimed at providing free, high-quality coaching for national-level competitive examinations such as JEE and NEET to meritorious students from coalfield areas.

To operationalise the programme, CCL signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Computer Saksharta Mission (NCSM) at its headquarters in Ranchi. The initiative will be implemented under the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework.

Bridging Talent and Opportunity

The programme has been designed to bridge the critical gap between talent and access to quality coaching for students belonging to economically weaker sections. Under “CCL Vidya Saarthi,” selected students will receive completely free coaching for a duration of two years, enabling them to prepare for highly competitive examinations with structured academic support.

Selection of 400 Students

An entrance examination will be conducted to select up to 400 students who have passed the Class X Board Examination in 2026. Eligibility criteria include:

Residence within 25 km of CCL operational areas

Enrollment in schools located in CCL command regions

Annual family income below ₹8 lakh

Smart Learning Infrastructure

To ensure accessibility for students from remote coalfield regions, 10 dedicated learning centres will be established across DAV Schools within CCL command areas. These centres will feature smart classrooms and digital learning tools, creating a modern and technology-enabled academic environment.

Comprehensive Academic Support

The programme offers a holistic preparation ecosystem, including:

Classroom coaching by experienced faculty

Digital learning platforms and study materials

Mock tests and performance assessments

Doubt-clearing sessions and remedial classes

Motivational mentoring and expert interactions

Students will also receive study kits, including school bags, books, and stationery, free of cost.

Weekend Classes for Balanced Learning

To ensure that regular schooling remains unaffected, classes under the programme will be conducted on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays). This approach enables students to pursue competitive exam preparation alongside their formal education.

Empowering Coalfield Communities

The initiative is expected to significantly benefit talented students from coalfield regions who often lack access to quality coaching due to financial constraints and geographical limitations. By bringing structured guidance closer to their homes, CCL aims to create an ecosystem where aspirations can translate into achievement.

Building on Proven Success

CCL’s latest initiative builds upon the success of its flagship programme “CCL Ke Lal & CCL Ki Ladli”, under which 20 boys and 20 girls are selected annually and provided free coaching, schooling, and residential support. Notably, 194 students from this programme have secured admissions into prestigious institutions such as IITs, NITs, and other top engineering colleges.

Driving Inclusive Growth Through CSR

With the launch of “CCL Vidya Saarthi,” CCL has reinforced its commitment to educational equity, youth empowerment, and inclusive growth. The initiative is poised to create transformative opportunities for deserving students and contribute to building a skilled, confident, and future-ready generation.

NHPC Limited has launched a state-of-the-art Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to promote preventive healthcare for women, with a focus on early detection of breast and cervical cancer.

The initiative was inaugurated at the National Commission for Women during the observance of Menstrual Hygiene Week. The Mobile Medical Unit was formally flagged off by Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Savitri Thakur.

The event was also attended by NCW Chairperson Vijaya K. Rahatkar, Additional Secretary B. Radhika Chakravarti, and NHPC Ladies Club President Shikha Gupta.

A Significant Step in Women’s Preventive Healthcare

With breast and cervical cancer emerging as major health challenges among women in India, NHPC’s initiative stands out for its technology-driven and accessible healthcare delivery model. Unlike conventional health camps, the MMU integrates advanced diagnostics with on-ground outreach.

The project is being implemented through SheWings Foundation, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NHPC and the foundation on February 13, 2026.

Experts highlight that AI-based screening technologies enable faster and more accurate detection compared to traditional methods, significantly improving the chances of early diagnosis.

Advanced Diagnostic Facilities Onboard

The Mobile Medical Unit is equipped with cutting-edge diagnostic technologies, including:

Thermalytix 360 Breast Screening System

Pap Smear Testing

Portable Colposcopy System

Digital Health Support

Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Programs

These services aim to provide accessible and affordable healthcare to women from economically weaker sections across Delhi-NCR and Faridabad.

Reaching 2,000 Women Every Month

According to NHPC, the MMU is expected to serve approximately 1,500 to 2,000 women every month, offering cancer screening and health awareness services at their doorstep.

What distinguishes this initiative from typical CSR healthcare projects is its integration of AI-based diagnostics with grassroots-level medical support, making it a scalable and impactful model in preventive healthcare.

A Model for Future CSR Initiatives

Healthcare experts believe that timely screening and awareness can significantly reduce mortality rates associated with breast and cervical cancer. NHPC’s initiative, therefore, sets a strong example for both public and private sector organizations.

If replicated widely, such technology-enabled healthcare programs can substantially enhance both the reach and quality of women’s healthcare services across the country.
