The MoU was signed at Coal Bhawan, the headquarters of Bharat Coking Coal Limited, marking a collaborative effort to encourage scientific thinking and innovation among students.

The event was attended by Mr. Surendra Bhushan, Head of Department (CSR), BCCL, members of the BCCL CSR team, and Ms. Trina Chakraborty, Regional Director (East), CRY. During the ceremony, representatives of both organizations reaffirmed their commitment to nurturing a scientific mindset and curiosity among young learners.

The project is being implemented under BCCL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. Earlier, a pilot phase of the initiative was successfully carried out during the financial year 2023–24, where students exposed to similar science activities performed remarkably well in science fairs and competitions, earning recognition and accolades.

Building on the success of the pilot initiative, the new project will establish Mini Science Centre Labs in five selected government schools, equipped with both static and dynamic scientific models. These labs will allow students to understand scientific concepts through hands-on experimentation and interactive learning methods.

The initiative aims to foster curiosity, logical thinking, and a scientific outlook among students, helping them develop a deeper interest in science and innovation.

BCCL has been actively implementing various CSR initiatives across education, healthcare, skill development, and community welfare. The Mini Science Centre Labs in Dhanbad schools are expected to play a crucial role in strengthening the educational ecosystem by connecting students with modern scientific learning resources.

Representatives present at the event expressed optimism that the initiative would spark greater interest in science among students and inspire them toward innovation, research, and scientific careers in the future.

The project aims to provide a modern, technology-rich learning environment to students in underprivileged and remote areas of the Dhanbad region. The establishment of smart classrooms and ICT labs will not only promote digital literacy but is also expected to significantly improve student learning, attendance, and academic outcomes. This initiative will make education more engaging, effective, and participatory for students in rural and urban fringe areas.

In his address on the occasion, CMD, Mr. Manoj Kumar Agarwal, stated that education is the cornerstone of any society’s progress. This important initiative aims to provide children with modern, inclusive, and quality education, providing them with easy and accessible access to modern educational facilities, proper development of their talents, and enabling them to meet future challenges. He stated that BCCL is committed to the development of every segment of society and such efforts will continue.

It is noteworthy that during the last few years, BCCL has made continuous positive efforts on education and skill development through its CSR initiatives, so that quality education and better opportunities can be made available to the youth of the region and the socio-economic upliftment of Dhanbad can get a sustainable boost.

With the signing of the MoU, the implementation of the project has formally begun, which will soon usher in a new era of digital education in the government schools of Dhanbad.
