The centre was inaugurated by Biranchi Das, Director (Human Resources), SECL, and forms part of a larger initiative under which 200 Anganwadi Centres across Bilaspur district are being upgraded with a financial outlay of ₹4.72 crore.

Addressing the gathering, Biranchi Das highlighted the importance of quality early childhood education and improved learning facilities in shaping the overall development of children. He said the upgraded centre would provide a more engaging and conducive environment for learning and growth.

Senior SECL officials, including Ajay Behera, General Manager (CSR), and members of the CSR Department were present during the inauguration ceremony.

The Anganwadi Centre currently caters to 22 enrolled children. To mark the occasion, educational materials including books, pencils, drawing pads, sketchbooks and other learning aids were distributed among the children.

The modernized facility features child-friendly classrooms, enhanced sanitation infrastructure, educational learning aids and modern furniture designed to support holistic early childhood development.

SECL has been actively implementing CSR projects across Bilaspur district in the areas of education, healthcare and social welfare. Recently, the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art Old Age Home and Divyangjan Rehabilitation Centre at Sakri, Bilaspur, funded through SECL’s CSR programme, was laid by CM Vishnu Deo Sai.

The valedictory ceremony of “SECL Ki DHADKAN – Phase II” was held on May 22, 2026, at Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital in Nava Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The project has been implemented across Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, providing completely free treatment to children from economically weaker sections.

A New Lease of Life for Children

The initiative has brought renewed hope and life to hundreds of children and their families. During the event, cultural performances were organized, and a special film showcasing the journey and impact of SECL Ki DHADKAN was screened. Families of beneficiaries shared emotional testimonies, highlighting how the initiative transformed their lives.

The project successfully reached remote and underserved regions through extensive screening drives and medical camps, ensuring identification and treatment of children in need. It stands out as a strong example of impactful healthcare outreach and social commitment.

MoU Signed for Next Phase

A key highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the next phase of the project. Under the upcoming phase, an additional 300 children will undergo heart surgeries.

This announcement has renewed hope among families who are unable to afford critical medical treatment for their children.

SECL’s Commitment to Accessible Healthcare

Addressing the gathering, Biranchi Das reaffirmed SECL’s commitment to community welfare and accessible healthcare. Emphasizing the spirit of the initiative, he remarked:

He further noted that the project has played a crucial role in extending healthcare services to remote and underdeveloped areas.

The EMRS network, established by MoTA, plays a crucial role in providing quality education to Scheduled Tribe (ST) children, enabling them to access higher education and secure meaningful employment. Currently, 479 EMRS are functional across India, delivering not only academic excellence but also ensuring students’ nutritional, health, and holistic development.

As part of this initiative, CIL’s ₹10 crore support will be directed towards the following impactful interventions:

• Promotion of Digital Education: Establishment of computer labs in EMRS, with the procurement of approximately 3,200 computers and 300 tablets.

• Enhancing Health & Hygiene for Girl Students: Installation of 1,200 sanitary napkin vending machines and 1,200 incinerators across school campuses and hostels.

• Student Mentorship Programs: Structured mentoring support to guide students in academic and career planning.

• Entrepreneurship Development: Organization of residential boot camps at premier institutions such as IITs, IIMs, and NITs to nurture entrepreneurial thinking among tribal students.

This comprehensive intervention aligns with the vision of NEP 2020 and the Government’s commitment to creating equitable and inclusive learning opportunities for all. It aims to foster a modern, digitally enabled educational ecosystem and equip students from disadvantaged communities with the tools and confidence to succeed in a competitive world.

The program will be implemented through the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC), a Section 8 company under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

This transformative partnership between CIL and MoTA marks a significant step in bridging the educational divide and building a brighter, more empowered future for India’s tribal youth.

1. Balika Shiksha Yojana – For Tribal Girls (ST)

Under the flagship initiative, NMDC is offering 100% free nursing education to young tribal girls from Bastar,Dantewada, Sukma, Kondagaon, Bijapur and Narayanpur to pursue B.Sc (Nursing 4 years) and GNM (3 years) Courses at reputed institutes namely Apollo School of Nursing, Yashoda School of Nursing, and KIMS College of Nursing in Hyderabad. The course offers a total of 200 seats, including 110 seats for B.Sc. Nursing and 90 seats for GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) courses. The program will cover all educational expenses including tuition, hostel, and academic costs, with an investment of ₹12 to ₹15 lakh per student.

2. Medical Technology Program – For Underprivileged Boys & Girls

NMDC, in partnership with Apollo University, Chittoor, is offering fully sponsored Allied Healthcare education for eligible Scheduled Tribe (ST) students from Dantewada and Bastar districts.

The initiative, fully sponsored with an investment of approximately ₹12 to ₹15 lakh per student, aims to empower tribal youth with professional skills for livelihood. The program will provide 90 seats for aspiring students (60% reserved for girls and 40% reserved for males). The specialized B.Sc. programs being offered include- Emergency Medical Technology, Medical Lab Technology, Anaesthesiology & Operation Theatre Technician, Imaging Technology, Physician Assistant, and Renal Dialysis Technology.

Application for the same are open till June 30, 2025. For over 60 years, NMDC has shaped the development of Chhattisgarh, where its two major mining complexes operate. These new education initiatives open fresh avenues for the region’s tribal youth.

The applicant’s family income must not exceed ₹72,000 per annum and the application window will close on 28th June 2025.
