Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Technical/Operations), emphasized that cleanliness is a noble human virtue that should be reflected in everyone’s conduct, enabling them to contribute to a cleaner environment and society. Mr. Rajiv Kumar Sinha, Director (Technical – Projects & Planning), stated that cleanliness is a moral responsibility and that every citizen should adopt clean habits as a contribution to nation-building.

In addition to the headquarters programme, Swachhata Pledge ceremonies were organized across all BCCL areas, including Barora, Block-II, CV Area, Sijua, East Jharia (EJ), West Jharia (WJ), Bastacolla, and Lodna. Officers and employees in these areas pledged to maintain cleanliness in their workplaces and surroundings. Selfie points were established at regional offices, while anti-littering posters were displayed at prominent locations, including the Block-II Area, to promote public awareness.

The forthcoming activities under the Swachhata Pakhwada campaign include cleanliness drives at Central and Regional Hospitals, cleaning of ponds, water tanks, and public places in BCCL colonies, inspection of rainwater harvesting systems, awareness workshops, signature campaigns, painting competitions in project schools, tree plantation drives, cyber cleanliness awareness sessions, cleanliness rallies, and special drives at religious and tourist locations. These initiatives are aimed at fostering widespread awareness regarding cleanliness and environmental conservation.

The latest achievement further reinforces the impact of these programs in shaping future engineers and leaders.

Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), the Singrauli-based subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has once again demonstrated its commitment to youth development through the remarkable success of its annual summer camp, ‘Aarohan 2026’, which witnessed the participation of more than 4,700 children from Singrauli and Sonbhadra districts.

Organised from May 21 to June 10, 2026, the 21-day camp is designed for children aged 7 to 14 years, offering a structured and inclusive platform that combines sports, arts, culture, and personality development. Over the years, Aarohan has evolved into one of the region’s most impactful youth engagement initiatives.

From CSR Initiative to Community Movement

Launched in 2018 as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, Aarohan began with just 1,200 participants and 46 coaches. In its seventh edition, the camp has grown nearly fourfold, reflecting the increasing trust of parents and the wider community.

Of the 4,700-plus children enrolled this year, 2,149 are wards of NCL employees, while 2,569 children belong to surrounding peripheral villages and communities, underscoring NCL’s commitment to inclusive and equitable development.

Professional Training Across 13 Disciplines

Participants are receiving expert coaching in 13 sports, artistic and cultural disciplines, including:

Football

Cricket

Badminton

Table Tennis

Volleyball

Kabaddi

Basketball

Athletics

Skating

Swimming

Judo and Karate

Music & Dance

Arts & Crafts

Training is being imparted by NCL employees who have excelled at Coal India and PSU-level competitions. Activities are being conducted at specialized facilities across NCL areas and units. While swimming sessions are held at the modern facility in Jayant, Kabaddi training is centered at the Kakri Area, ensuring participants benefit from quality infrastructure and expert guidance.

Focus on Holistic Personality Development

Beyond sports and recreation, Aarohan aims to nurture well-rounded individuals. Dedicated sessions throughout the camp focus on developing essential life skills such as:

Leadership

Self-confidence

Discipline

Teamwork

Communication skills

Positive values and character building

The initiative seeks to prepare children not only for competitive success but also for responsible citizenship and future leadership roles.

Alumni Making Their Mark Nationally and Internationally

The impact of Aarohan is evident in the achievements of its trainees.

At the 12th Mount Everest International Karate Championship 2026 in Nepal, Aarohan participants competed against athletes from seven countries and secured:

2 Gold Medals

2 Silver Medals

1 Bronze Medal

3 Participation Awards

Similarly, at the 61st Madhya Pradesh Athletics Championship 2025, Aarohan-trained athletes won 20 medals, including:

5 Gold

4 Silver

11 Bronze

In addition, more than 50 players have represented their regions at Senior and Junior National and State-level Kabaddi tournaments, while six badminton players have earned selection at national and state levels.

A Model for Youth Empowerment

The steadily rising enrollment and the success of its alumni highlight Aarohan’s growing reputation as a premier platform for youth development in the Singrauli-Sonbhadra region. By combining sports excellence, creative expression and personality development, NCL is helping shape confident, disciplined and talented young citizens, reinforcing its role as a socially responsible corporate committed to community transformation.

South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative “SECL Ki DHADKAN,” has achieved a significant milestone with the successful completion of 300 life-saving heart surgeries for children suffering from Congenital Heart Disease (CHD).

The valedictory ceremony of “SECL Ki DHADKAN – Phase II” was held on May 22, 2026, at Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital in Nava Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The project has been implemented across Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, providing completely free treatment to children from economically weaker sections.

A New Lease of Life for Children

The initiative has brought renewed hope and life to hundreds of children and their families. During the event, cultural performances were organized, and a special film showcasing the journey and impact of SECL Ki DHADKAN was screened. Families of beneficiaries shared emotional testimonies, highlighting how the initiative transformed their lives.

The project successfully reached remote and underserved regions through extensive screening drives and medical camps, ensuring identification and treatment of children in need. It stands out as a strong example of impactful healthcare outreach and social commitment.

MoU Signed for Next Phase

A key highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the next phase of the project. Under the upcoming phase, an additional 300 children will undergo heart surgeries.

This announcement has renewed hope among families who are unable to afford critical medical treatment for their children.

SECL’s Commitment to Accessible Healthcare

Addressing the gathering, Biranchi Das reaffirmed SECL’s commitment to community welfare and accessible healthcare. Emphasizing the spirit of the initiative, he remarked:

“This is SECL Ki DHADKAN — Only Heart, Without Bill.”

He further noted that the project has played a crucial role in extending healthcare services to remote and underdeveloped areas.

Presence of Senior Officials

The event was attended by senior SECL officials, including Ajay Behera, Arnab Mondal, Vivek Kumar Singh, and Mitali Tiwari. They expressed satisfaction over the success of the initiative and described it as a landmark CSR achievement.

A Model for Social Impact

SECL Ki DHADKAN has emerged as more than just a healthcare initiative—it has become a symbol of hope and transformation for underprivileged families. By saving young lives, the project reinforces the vital role that public sector enterprises can play in social development.

The initiative is expected to continue making a meaningful impact by extending life-saving treatment to many more children in the coming years.

In a timely humanitarian initiative amid rising temperatures, the Diksha Mahila Mandal of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) inaugurated a drinking water relief centre near the residence of the CMD, aimed at providing respite to the public battling the scorching heat.

The facility was formally inaugurated by Mrs. Archana Agarwal, President of Diksha Mahila Mandal, in the presence of key members of the Mandal.

The centre is supplying cool and clean drinking water through earthen pitchers, ensuring easy access for passersby and nearby residents. Extending the outreach beyond hydration, the Mandal also distributed buttermilk, fruits, and shawls, reflecting a thoughtful approach towards immediate heat relief.

Speaking on the occasion, members highlighted that the initiative is not just a seasonal response but a reflection of BCCL’s broader commitment to community welfare and social sensitivity.

Among those present were Mrs. Purbita Ramaiah, Vice President of Diksha Mahila Mandal, Mrs. Sanchita Roy, along with other active members, all of whom participated enthusiastically in the service initiative.

The Mandal has ensured that continuous availability of safe drinking water will be maintained at the centre, enabling sustained benefit to the public during the peak summer period.

Diksha Mahila Mandal has consistently been at the forefront of social outreach efforts, contributing across sectors such as education, healthcare, and support for the underprivileged. This latest initiative further reinforces its role in strengthening the spirit of service, cooperation, and community care.

Editor’s Take

In an era where CSR often leans toward large-scale visibility projects, such grassroots, need-based interventions stand out. BCCL’s Diksha Mahila Mandal has demonstrated that impact lies in immediacy and empathy—delivering relief where it is needed most, when it is needed most.
