About IndianPSU CSR
On March 18, 2025, during the prestigious INDIAN PSU ACHIEVERS’ AWARD ceremony held at the SCOPE Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi, our Editor-in-Chief, Vivek Avasthi, proudly announced the launch of our second platform – www.indianpsucsr.com.
This new initiative is dedicated to highlighting the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts of India’s Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). Through this platform, we aim to showcase the invaluable contributions PSUs are making towards community welfare, sustainable development, and nation-building.
www.indianpsucsr.com is a tribute to the silent yet impactful work of these organizations — the true builders of the nation — who are not only driving the economy but also uplifting lives across the country through their CSR initiatives.
Stay tuned as we bring you inspiring stories, impactful projects, and exclusive insights into how PSUs are shaping a better tomorrow.
We launched www.indianpsucsr.com out of a strong and urgent need to spotlight the remarkable work and social contributions of India’s Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). Across the length and breadth of the country, PSUs have been tirelessly engaged in meaningful CSR initiatives—empowering communities, supporting education, healthcare, environment, and sustainable development.
However, these impactful efforts often go unheard, unreported, and unacknowledged. Mainstream media—whether print, television, or digital—rarely devotes space or attention to such humanitarian activities. Instead, media platforms seem more inclined toward amplifying negativity, while positive and nation-building stories are overlooked or buried.
www.indianpsucsr.com is our effort to correct this imbalance. It is dedicated exclusively to showcasing the positive transformation brought about by PSUs through their CSR initiatives. We believe these stories deserve not just to be told, but to be celebrated—because they reflect the real progress being made on the ground, often silently and selflessly.
CSR Spending by CPSUs Hits Four-Year High at ₹4,911 Crore in FY24
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) spending by Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) surged by 19 per cent in the financial year 2023–24 (FY24), reaching ₹4,911 crore — the highest level in four years. This rebound comes after a dip in CSR expenditure in FY23 and highlights a renewed commitment by CPSUs towards social and environmental development.
The data was released in the latest edition of the Public Enterprises Survey, published by the Ministry of Finance.
Top CSR Contributors
Among the CPSUs, five major entities accounted for the highest CSR contributions:
* Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC)
* Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IndianOil)
* Power Grid Corporation of India
* REC Limited
* Power Finance Corporation
Collectively, the top 10 CPSUs contributed 56.72 per cent of the total CSR expenditure during the year, underlining a high concentration of CSR funding among key profit-making enterprises.
Strong Financial Performance
In addition to increased CSR spending, CPSEs showed remarkable financial performance. The net profit of profit-making CPSUs rose by 38.66 per cent, from ₹2.47 trillion in FY23 to ₹3.43 trillion in FY24. This growth was largely driven by robust performance in the petroleum sector, particularly in refinery and marketing segments.
The top five most profitable CPSUs were:
* ONGC
* Indian Oil Corporation Limited
* Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited
* NTPC Limited
* Coal India Limited
Losses Decline
On the other hand, the net loss of loss-incurring CPSUs came down significantly — from ₹29,000 crore in FY23 to ₹21,000 crore in FY24, a decrease of 27.6 per cent.
CSR Focus Areas
The CSR activities undertaken by CPSUs in FY24 spanned a wide array of development sectors, including:
* Eradication of hunger and poverty
* Healthcare and sanitation
* Rural development
* Education and skill development
* Disaster management
* Environmental sustainability
* Empowerment of women and underprivileged groups
* Promotion of sports, arts, and culture
* Welfare of armed forces personnel and their dependents
This surge in both financial performance and CSR efforts indicates a strengthened resolve by India’s public sector to contribute meaningfully not just to the economy, but to inclusive and sustainable development.
