BCCL Intensifies TB Awareness Drive Across Coalfields on World Tuberculosis Day

The primary objective of these initiatives was to spread awareness about TB, educate communities on its symptoms, prevention, and treatment

On the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day, Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) organized a series of comprehensive awareness programmes across its operational areas, including the Central Hospital, Dhanbad (CHD), under the TB Free India Campaign (National TB Elimination Program).

At Central Hospital (CHD), an awareness rally was conducted under the leadership of CMO Dr. Bandana, with active participation from doctors, paramedical teams, and nursing staff, all reaffirming their commitment to eradicating tuberculosis.

The primary objective of these initiatives was to spread awareness about TB, educate communities on its symptoms, prevention, and treatment, and reinforce the national goal of eliminating tuberculosis from India.

Widespread Participation Across BCCL Areas

An awareness rally in the Block-2 area was flagged off by Regional General Manager Mr. Kumar Ranjeev. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from officials, employees, and local residents.

Similar initiatives were carried out across multiple regions:

  • Munidih Regional Hospital (West Jharia): Awareness camp and rally under Regional Nodal Officer (TB) Dr. A.K. Yadav
  • Bastakola Area-9: TB awareness camp for workers and residents
  • Dugda Coal Washery: Special awareness session highlighting symptoms, testing, and free treatment
  • Katras Area: Programmes led by Ward Councillor Madhumala, Dr. Asha Kumari, and Dr. Pritam Kumar
  • CV Area 12 (Begunia Dispensary) & Dahibari Layakdih: Awareness talks and outreach activities
  • Coal Dump Colony, Katras & Munidih: Public sensitization campaigns on TB prevention
  • Kustur Regional Hospital (PB Area): Programme featuring poem recitation and expert sessions on TB awareness

Key Public Health Message

Across all locations, a consistent message was delivered:

  • TB is completely curable with timely diagnosis and proper treatment
  • Persistent cough for more than two weeks requires immediate testing
  • Patients must complete the full course of medication
  • Proper nutrition plays a crucial role in recovery

These multi-dimensional programmes reflect BCCL’s commitment to supporting the Government of India’s vision of a TB-Free India, while promoting a healthier and safer society.
