Empowering Dreams, Shaping Futures: NTPC WR-I Leads Girl Child Empowerment Through GEM 2025

This moment captured the true essence of GEM 2025—empowerment that begins within and radiates to families and communities

NTPC Limited’s Western Region-I Headquarters is scripting stories of empowerment and transformation through the impactful execution of its flagship CSR initiative—Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) 2025. Held across NTPC’s Kawas, Jhanor, Solapur, Mouda, and Anta projects, the month-long residential workshop is nurturing aspirations and confidence among young girls from underprivileged and rural backgrounds.

Kawas & Jhanor: Learning Beyond the Classroom

At NTPC Kawas, participants from project-affected villages like Junagam, Rajgiri, Mora, and Damka engaged in immersive experiential learning. A standout moment was their visit to Surat International Airport, where Airport Director Shri Anand Sharma personally interacted with the girls, commending NTPC’s initiative. Visits to the Krishna Bird Sanctuary, Punjab National Bank, India Post, and the NTPC plant enriched their learning experience.

The girls participated in a variety of workshops—from human anatomy and self-defence to energy conservation and first aid. Swati Mahila Mandal, under the leadership of Smt. Shanija M. George, played a pivotal role in ensuring their daily care and overall well-being.

At NTPC Jhanor, forty girls from Amlipada, Kotiya, and Kandla villages experienced a unique blend of academics, sports, and life skills training. Awareness programs on child rights, environmental conservation, computer literacy, and cultural heritage added depth to their development journey.

Solapur & Mouda: Building Confidence, Creating Change

NTPC Solapur inaugurated its GEM 2025 workshop on May 12 with 40 girls from Hotgi, Aherwadi, and Tilehal villages. Activities like yoga, art, self-defence, and health awareness sessions—especially around menstrual hygiene—were designed to promote holistic well-being. Weekly movie screenings and family-involved celebrations created a joyful and supportive environment.

An innovative session on human anatomy, led by NTPC medical officers, used hands-on models to make science both accessible and engaging.

At NTPC Mouda, GEM 2025 continues a legacy of impact. Having already empowered over 178 girls since 2022, this year’s cohort of 44 girls from nine Zilla Parishad schools benefited from the structured program in partnership with Hero Mindmine. Notably, NTPC Mouda is funding the continued education of 12 outstanding GEM alumni at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan’s NTPC Vidya Mandir through Class 12—a testament to the long-term vision of the initiative.

Anta: A Heartfelt Milestone

At NTPC Anta, a parents’ meeting became the emotional highlight of the program. Families witnessed profound changes in their daughters’ confidence and communication. One moment stood out—10-year-old Ridhi Mehara from Balakheda, once shy and quiet, confidently presented her sketch titled “A Girl Standing for Her Dreams.” Her father, moved to tears, proudly said, “I never imagined my daughter could speak like this. Today, I am proud of her.”

This moment captured the true essence of GEM 2025—empowerment that begins within and radiates to families and communities.

A Movement for Social Transformation

More than just a CSR activity, GEM 2025 is a movement—fostering gender equality, building self-confidence, and creating a sustainable ecosystem of support across communities. With active involvement from families, volunteers, and NTPC personnel, the initiative is planting seeds of change and nurturing future leaders.

These young girls are not merely workshop participants—they are change-makers, dreamers, and future torchbearers of a more inclusive and empowered India.

As NTPC Western Region-I continues to champion girl child empowerment through GEM, it reinforces the belief that when a girl rises, she lifts an entire community with her.
