Reinforcing its commitment to community development and youth empowerment, NTPC Limited’s Bongaigaon unit has launched the 2026 batch of Disha Classes, an educational initiative conducted under the employee-led voluntary platform e-VOICE in association with the station’s CSR wing.

The programme, which has been guiding local youth since 2019, focuses on preparing students from neighbouring communities for competitive examinations at both state and central levels, particularly for recruitment in police and armed forces. The new academic batch formally commenced on February 17, 2026, with enthusiastic participation from nearly 45 students from nearby areas.

The initiative is being conducted by NTPC employees in collaboration with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) unit at NTPC Bongaigaon and is supported by the CSR wing of the power station.

The inaugural session was graced by Anurag Gupta, General Manager (O&M), NTPC Bongaigaon, who emphasised the importance of discipline, punctuality, and consistency in shaping the future of aspiring youth. He appreciated the voluntary efforts of employees who are contributing their time and expertise to mentor students and guide them towards meaningful career opportunities.

Amit Kumar Asthana, Head of HR, NTPC Bongaigaon, highlighted NTPC’s broader vision as a responsible corporate citizen committed to nurturing local talent and promoting inclusive growth through education and skill development initiatives.

Ashish Kumar, Deputy Commandant, CISF, NTPC Bongaigaon, encouraged students to remain focused, physically fit, and mentally prepared to meet the challenges of competitive examinations, especially for defence and police services.

Participants expressed gratitude to the NTPC management and employee volunteers for providing a valuable platform that supports their aspirations to build successful careers and contribute positively to society.

It is noteworthy that under the initiative, e-VOICE members provide academic coaching while the CISF unit conducts physical training sessions. Over the past seven years, more than 21 local youth have secured employment in various state and central armed forces through the programme.

Through initiatives like Disha Classes, NTPC Bongaigaon continues to strengthen its community engagement while contributing to the development of a confident, skilled, and future-ready generation.

The facility — developed under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of NTPC Bongaigaon — marks a major milestone in strengthening institutional support systems for inmates.

The development follows the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) earlier signed between NTPC Bongaigaon and the District Administration to enhance critical infrastructure in the district.
Leaders Emphasise Rehabilitation & Human-Centric Growth

Speaking at the ceremony, Masanda M. Pertin applauded NTPC’s sustained commitment to improving correctional facilities and inmate welfare. “The new infrastructure will significantly contribute to behavioural transformation and skill-based empowerment. NTPC’s support reflects a strong commitment to rehabilitation and dignity,” she said.

Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, reiterated the organisation’s philosophy of “People Before Profit.” “Our CSR efforts focus on uplifting the most vulnerable sections of society. NTPC continues to invest in healthcare, education, livelihood enhancement, and infrastructure to bring meaningful and lasting change,” he added.

Strengthened Infrastructure for Dignity & Skill Development

The event witnessed participation from key dignitaries, including Kabita Deka, ACS, Additional District Commissioner, Kokrajhar, Dhrubajyoti Das, ACS, Assistant Commissioner, Amit Kumar Asthana, AGM (HR), NTPC Bongaigaon, Officials from the PWD (Building) Department and Members of the NTPC CSR and Civil teams.

Constructed at an investment of ₹32.82 lakh, the new Kitchen & Multi-Purpose Hall will ensure:

Improved nutritional services

Structured vocational and recreational opportunities

A more humane, rehabilitation-driven environment

Support for skill training under the Karagar se Karigar initiative

NTPC Bongaigaon: Strengthening Communities Through CSR

This initiative further underscores NTPC Bongaigaon’s commitment to institutional strengthening, social upliftment, and restorative justice in the region. By enabling better rehabilitation and reintegration outcomes, the project brings hope and creates pathways for inmates to rebuild their lives with dignity.

NTPC Bongaigaon has been conferred with the CSR Health Impact Award 2025 under the category of CSR Preventive Project (Rural) for its impactful initiative on cancer screening and awareness, undertaken in collaboration with the Assam Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF) — a joint venture between the Government of Assam and Tata Trusts.

The recognition was bestowed upon NTPC Bongaigaon for its CSR project that benefited over 70,000 people in rural areas of Kokrajhar district through community-based cancer screening and awareness programmes. The initiative focused on early detection of oral, breast, and cervical cancers, along with extensive outreach campaigns promoting health awareness among rural communities.

The award was presented by Ms. Vimala R, IAS, Resident Commissioner and Secretary, Government of Maharashtra, and Ms. Nikky Gupta, Founder of Teamwork Communications, at a ceremony held recently in New Delhi. Shri Shubham Pandey, Assistant Law Officer, NTPC Bongaigaon, received the honour on behalf of the 750 MW power station.

This prestigious accolade reaffirms NTPC Bongaigaon’s unwavering commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and its focus on improving healthcare access, preventive care, and quality of life in rural communities. The station’s healthcare interventions — including cancer screening, maternal and child health programmes, and strengthening of local medical infrastructure — continue to form a vital part of its long-term vision for holistic community development.

In a major CSR initiative to enhance healthcare in the Bodoland region, NTPC Bongaigaon has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Assam Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF) to implement a Community-Based Cancer Screening Project in Kokrajhar district.

The ₹33 lakh project will provide preventive and diagnostic cancer care to nearly 81,000 people across multiple villages, ensuring last-mile outreach through four Block Primary Health Centres (BPHCs) and around 80 Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs). The initiative focuses on early detection of oral, breast, and cervical cancers, along with awareness programmes and home-based palliative care.

The MoA was signed by Amit Asthana, AGM (HR), NTPC Bongaigaon, and Dr. Major General J. P. Prasad, COO, ACCF, in the presence of Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, who lauded ACCF’s work in promoting cancer prevention and treatment across Assam.

This year-long project, funded for the second consecutive year, will also link diagnosed patients with government health schemes for cashless or reimbursable treatment, thereby reducing financial stress on families.

The initiative aligns with Schedule VII (i) of the Companies Act, 2013, and contributes to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), reinforcing NTPC’s commitment to sustainable community development.

It is noteworthy that the Assam Cancer Care Foundation—a joint venture between the Government of Assam and Tata Trusts—has been pioneering a three-tier cancer grid model since 2017 to provide standardized, affordable, and accessible cancer care across the state.
