NTPC Bongaigaon Launches Mobile Science Lab to Promote Experiential Learning in Assam Schools

₹58 lakh CSR initiative to benefit students across 60 schools in Kokrajhar, Chirang and Bongaigaon districts

Reinforcing its commitment to quality education and scientific learning, NTPC Limited Bongaigaon has inaugurated a Mobile Science Lab at Salakati M.E. School in Kokrajhar district under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

The initiative was inaugurated by Suprava Roy in the presence of officials from the Education Department, representatives of Seva Bharati Purvanchal, school authorities, teachers, students and NTPC Bongaigaon officials.

Implemented at an estimated cost of ₹58 lakh, the Mobile Science Lab aims to enhance science education through practical, activity-based learning and hands-on experimentation. The project is designed to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world scientific application, especially in schools with limited laboratory facilities.

Starting from Kokrajhar district, the Mobile Science Lab will reach 60 schools across Kokrajhar, Chirang and Bongaigaon districts, enabling students to participate in scientific experiments, interactive demonstrations and curriculum-based learning activities. The mobile facility is equipped with scientific models, experiment kits and educational tools that make science more engaging and accessible for young learners.

Speaking on the occasion, Suprava Roy appreciated NTPC Bongaigaon’s efforts and underscored the importance of experiential learning in nurturing scientific temper among students. She noted that practical exposure to science at an early stage can spark curiosity, creativity and innovation while encouraging students to explore careers in science and technology.

Representatives of Seva Bharati Purvanchal highlighted that the Mobile Science Lab would travel from school to school, allowing students to conduct experiments and observe scientific concepts in action. The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen science education in rural and semi-urban areas by supplementing conventional classroom teaching.

NTPC Bongaigaon officials stated that education remains a key focus area of the station’s CSR activities. Through initiatives such as the Mobile Science Lab, the company aims to create meaningful learning opportunities, promote innovation and contribute to the holistic development of students across the region.

The project reflects NTPC’s broader commitment to empowering future generations through education, knowledge-sharing and skill development.
