NHPC Limited has launched a state-of-the-art Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to promote preventive healthcare for women, with a focus on early detection of breast and cervical cancer.

The initiative was inaugurated at the National Commission for Women during the observance of Menstrual Hygiene Week. The Mobile Medical Unit was formally flagged off by Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Savitri Thakur.

The event was also attended by NCW Chairperson Vijaya K. Rahatkar, Additional Secretary B. Radhika Chakravarti, and NHPC Ladies Club President Shikha Gupta.

A Significant Step in Women’s Preventive Healthcare

With breast and cervical cancer emerging as major health challenges among women in India, NHPC’s initiative stands out for its technology-driven and accessible healthcare delivery model. Unlike conventional health camps, the MMU integrates advanced diagnostics with on-ground outreach.

The project is being implemented through SheWings Foundation, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NHPC and the foundation on February 13, 2026.

Experts highlight that AI-based screening technologies enable faster and more accurate detection compared to traditional methods, significantly improving the chances of early diagnosis.

Advanced Diagnostic Facilities Onboard

The Mobile Medical Unit is equipped with cutting-edge diagnostic technologies, including:

Thermalytix 360 Breast Screening System

Pap Smear Testing

Portable Colposcopy System

Digital Health Support

Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Programs

These services aim to provide accessible and affordable healthcare to women from economically weaker sections across Delhi-NCR and Faridabad.

Reaching 2,000 Women Every Month

According to NHPC, the MMU is expected to serve approximately 1,500 to 2,000 women every month, offering cancer screening and health awareness services at their doorstep.

What distinguishes this initiative from typical CSR healthcare projects is its integration of AI-based diagnostics with grassroots-level medical support, making it a scalable and impactful model in preventive healthcare.

A Model for Future CSR Initiatives

Healthcare experts believe that timely screening and awareness can significantly reduce mortality rates associated with breast and cervical cancer. NHPC’s initiative, therefore, sets a strong example for both public and private sector organizations.

If replicated widely, such technology-enabled healthcare programs can substantially enhance both the reach and quality of women’s healthcare services across the country.

Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) has demonstrated a strong commitment to inclusive development, social empowerment, and sustainability through its wide-ranging Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives during the financial year 2025–26.

With a focused approach toward uplifting communities in its operational areas, CCL has implemented impactful programs across healthcare, nutrition, education, livelihood, skill development, sports, environment, and animal welfare—bringing measurable and meaningful change to thousands of lives.

Healthcare & Nutrition: Reaching the Last Mile

CCL’s healthcare initiatives have significantly strengthened access to medical services in remote and underserved regions. A state-of-the-art centralized kitchen in Ramgarh, being developed in collaboration with the Akshaya Patra Foundation at a cost of ₹15.09 crore, will provide nutritious meals to 50,000 children daily, helping combat malnutrition.

Under the Government of India’s TB elimination campaign, the ‘Nikshay Mitra’ initiative has supported over 5,140 TB patients in Chatra and Latehar districts. The program integrates treatment with nutritional and caregiving support, ensuring holistic recovery.

The ‘Nanhi Sa Dil’ project, implemented with the Sri Sathya Sai Health and Education Trust, has screened over 39,000 children for congenital heart diseases, with 115 successful surgeries conducted so far—completely free of cost.

Additionally, ‘Project Aditi’ for sickle cell anemia screening and extensive health camps have further expanded healthcare outreach, benefiting over 1.5 lakh individuals. Mobile medical units under ‘Upchar Aapke Dwar’ are ensuring last-mile healthcare delivery in rural areas.

Education & Livelihood: Building Future Pathways

CCL is investing heavily in education and youth empowerment. A ₹65 crore ultra-modern library in Ranchi is under development and is expected to become a major hub for knowledge and innovation.

Through flagship initiatives like ‘CCL ke Lal’ and ‘CCL ki Ladli’, the company is supporting meritorious students from underprivileged backgrounds with quality coaching. Out of 308 students trained, 219 have secured admission to engineering institutions.

Livelihood programs in Hazaribagh are enabling nearly 5,000 families to achieve sustainable income growth through agriculture, livestock, and micro-enterprises. Skill development initiatives in partnership with ICA Foundation have already placed a majority of trained youth in jobs with salaries ranging from ₹12,000 to ₹33,000.

Sports Promotion: Nurturing National Talent

In collaboration with the Government of Jharkhand, CCL co-runs the JSSPS Sports Academy, which is shaping the future of young athletes. Currently, 234 trainees—96% from SC/ST/OBC communities—are receiving professional coaching across multiple disciplines.

The academy has produced over 2,100 medals, including 21 international accolades, and has been recognized with the prestigious National CSR Award.

Environment & Animal Welfare: Responsible Growth

CCL’s commitment to sustainability extends to environmental protection and animal welfare. Under the ‘Aashray’ project, a modern shelter for stray animals is nearing completion, complemented by a 24×7 animal ambulance service—reflecting a humane and responsible approach to development.

National Recognition and Leadership Vision

CCL’s CSR excellence has earned multiple national accolades, including the CSR Times Award 2025, India CSR Award 2025, and recognition at the CIL CSR Conclave.

Under the visionary leadership of Chairman-cum-Managing Director Nilendu Kumar Singh, the company continues to redefine development by integrating social responsibility with industrial progress.

CCL’s CSR journey stands as a testament to how a responsible public sector enterprise can drive large-scale social transformation while building a sustainable and inclusive future.

Reinforcing its commitment to community development and youth empowerment, NTPC Limited’s Bongaigaon unit has launched the 2026 batch of Disha Classes, an educational initiative conducted under the employee-led voluntary platform e-VOICE in association with the station’s CSR wing.

The programme, which has been guiding local youth since 2019, focuses on preparing students from neighbouring communities for competitive examinations at both state and central levels, particularly for recruitment in police and armed forces. The new academic batch formally commenced on February 17, 2026, with enthusiastic participation from nearly 45 students from nearby areas.

The initiative is being conducted by NTPC employees in collaboration with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) unit at NTPC Bongaigaon and is supported by the CSR wing of the power station.

The inaugural session was graced by Anurag Gupta, General Manager (O&M), NTPC Bongaigaon, who emphasised the importance of discipline, punctuality, and consistency in shaping the future of aspiring youth. He appreciated the voluntary efforts of employees who are contributing their time and expertise to mentor students and guide them towards meaningful career opportunities.

Amit Kumar Asthana, Head of HR, NTPC Bongaigaon, highlighted NTPC’s broader vision as a responsible corporate citizen committed to nurturing local talent and promoting inclusive growth through education and skill development initiatives.

Ashish Kumar, Deputy Commandant, CISF, NTPC Bongaigaon, encouraged students to remain focused, physically fit, and mentally prepared to meet the challenges of competitive examinations, especially for defence and police services.

Participants expressed gratitude to the NTPC management and employee volunteers for providing a valuable platform that supports their aspirations to build successful careers and contribute positively to society.

It is noteworthy that under the initiative, e-VOICE members provide academic coaching while the CISF unit conducts physical training sessions. Over the past seven years, more than 21 local youth have secured employment in various state and central armed forces through the programme.

Through initiatives like Disha Classes, NTPC Bongaigaon continues to strengthen its community engagement while contributing to the development of a confident, skilled, and future-ready generation.
