
In a significant step towards inclusive development, Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the District Administration of Chatra to improve housing conditions for Birhor families, a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG).
The initiative, undertaken under CCL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, aims to enhance the overall living standards of marginalized tribal communities.
Key highlights of the initiative:
- Housing strengthening for 28 Birhor families
- Location: Dhuna Panchayat, Itkhori block, Chatra district
- Total financial support: ₹28,49,700
- Implementation through the District Administration, Chatra
The MoU was signed by Sanjeev Kumar, General Manager, Amrapali Chandragupta Area, on behalf of CCL, and Manoj Toppo, District Mining Officer-cum-Nodal Officer (CSR), representing the district administration.

This initiative is expected to provide safe, durable, and sustainable housing to the Birhor community, contributing to their social and economic upliftment.
Under the leadership of CCL CMD Mr. Nilendu Kumar Singh, the company has been actively driving impactful CSR interventions. The focus on housing improvement for PVTGs like the Birhor community reflects CCL’s commitment to last-mile development, ensuring that vulnerable sections of society can lead a secure and dignified life.
