NTPC Bongaigaon Signs MoA to Launch Mobile Science Lab Project Covering 60 Schools Across Three Assam Districts

₹57.88 lakh CSR initiative to deliver hands-on science learning through fully equipped mobile labs in Bongaigaon, Chirang and Kokrajhar

NTPC Bongaigaon has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to implement a Mobile Science Lab Project aimed at strengthening science education across 60 government schools in the districts of Bongaigaon, Chirang and Kokrajhar. The initiative, taken up under NTPC’s Corporate Strategic CSR framework, carries a total CSR outlay of ₹57.88 lakh.

The MoA was signed between Riju Dutta, Secretary, Seva Bharati Purbanchal, and Amit Kumar Asthana, Head of HR, NTPC Bongaigaon, in the presence of senior officials including Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon; Sanjiv Barman, Joint Secretary, Seva Bharati Purbanchal; Sanjiv Bist, Coordinator; and Surendra Talkelkar, representative of the organisation. Members from NTPC’s HR and CSR teams were also present.

The project will be executed by Seva Bharati Purbanchal, a CSR-registered organisation with extensive experience in education and community-centric interventions across the North-East.

Bringing Experiential Learning to Remote Schools

The Mobile Science Lab Project is designed to promote activity-based, experiential learning in remote and underserved areas. Specially equipped mobile laboratory vans will visit school campuses with scientific instruments, demonstration models and digital teaching tools, enabling practical learning in physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy and renewable energy.

The initiative aims to cultivate scientific curiosity, encourage problem-solving and promote STEM learning among students.

Speaking on the occasion, Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, said the initiative underscores NTPC’s long-term commitment to strengthening the education ecosystem in its operational areas. “By taking science learning beyond textbooks, this project aims to spark curiosity, encourage scientific thinking and nurture interest in STEM disciplines, thereby contributing to future-ready human capital in the region,” he noted.

Mobile Labs Equipped for Impact

Each mobile lab will include:

  • Microscopes, telescopes and optics kits
  • Rocket and solar energy models
  • Laptops, projectors and digital teaching aids
  • Activity-based science equipment
  • Trained lab instructors and support staff
  • IEC materials and capacity-building modules
  • Monitoring and Transparency

The one-year project will operate with structured monitoring, periodic reporting and utilisation certificate submission in accordance with CSR norms. NTPC Bongaigaon will conduct regular reviews and site visits to ensure transparency, accountability and timely outcomes.

With this initiative, NTPC Bongaigaon continues to reinforce its commitment to inclusive, future-oriented education and community development, aligned with national priorities of promoting scientific temper and innovation.
