As part of the ongoing Swachhata Pakhwada 2026, being observed from June 16 to June 30 under the directions of the Ministry of Coal, Government of India, Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) organized painting competitions on the theme “Clean and Green India” across its project schools to promote awareness about cleanliness, environmental conservation, and sustainable practices among students.
The competitions aimed to encourage young minds to express their vision of a cleaner, greener, and more environmentally responsible India through art while sensitizing them to issues such as waste management, water conservation, energy efficiency, and ecological protection.
The main event was organized by the BCCL Welfare Department at DAV Public School, Coal Nagar, where around 300 students from Nursery to Class XII enthusiastically participated. Students competed in six different categories and presented vibrant artworks reflecting the ideals of the Swachh Bharat Mission.

The programme was attended by Mrs. Dolan Champa Banerjee, Principal, DAV School Coal Nagar; Mr. Arpan Ghosh, General Manager (Manpower Planning); Mrs. Shobha J. Kujur, Head of Department (Officer Establishment); and Mrs. Kiran Rani Nayak, Head of Department (Welfare), along with teachers, BCCL officials, and employees. Winners from each category were felicitated with prizes and certificates in recognition of their creativity and commitment to the cause.
Similar painting and poster-making competitions were also conducted in other BCCL project schools, including DAV Lodna, DAV Dugda (Washery Division), DAV Alkusa (PB Area), and PCMS Sanskriti Vidya Mandir, Digwadih (East Jharia Area). Students across these institutions actively participated and conveyed messages on cleanliness, environmental sustainability, water conservation, and the importance of maintaining a green nation.
School administrators, teachers, and officials from the respective BCCL areas graced the events and appreciated the students’ efforts in spreading awareness through artistic expression.
BCCL has been conducting a series of activities under Swachhata Pakhwada since June 16. These include cleanliness pledges, awareness campaigns, special sanitation drives in hospitals, cleaning of ponds and water bodies, maintenance of residential colonies, removal of unwanted vegetation, inspection of rainwater harvesting systems, signature campaigns, and cleanliness drives at public places.
The painting competitions further strengthened awareness among students regarding environmental responsibility and public participation in nation-building through cleanliness initiatives.
BCCL has also planned several more activities during the remaining days of the fortnight, including cleanliness training workshops, tree plantation drives, cyber cleanliness awareness sessions, cleanliness rallies, and special sanitation campaigns at religious and tourist destinations, reinforcing its commitment to the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
