BPCL Strengthens Healthcare Infrastructure at Kedarnath with New Hospital Inauguration

The facility is equipped with modern healthcare infrastructure to cater to both pilgrims and local residents

In a significant step towards strengthening healthcare access in high-altitude pilgrimage regions, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has inaugurated a modern hospital at Shri Kedarnath Dham, reinforcing its commitment to social responsibility and public welfare.

The hospital was formally inaugurated by Pushkar Singh Dhami, marking a key milestone in BPCL’s expanding footprint in healthcare infrastructure under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

BPCL’s CSR Push in Devbhoomi

The newly inaugurated BPCL Hospital will be operated by the Swami Vivekananda Health Mission Society and aims to provide advanced medical care in one of India’s most challenging terrains.

Situated in the high Himalayan region of Kedarnath Dham, the facility is equipped with modern healthcare infrastructure to cater to both pilgrims and local residents. The initiative reflects BPCL’s broader CSR vision of delivering critical services in remote and underserved regions.

Enhancing Pilgrim Safety and Healthcare Access

Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasized that the hospital will significantly enhance emergency preparedness and healthcare delivery during the Char Dham Yatra.

The facility will support:

  • Emergency medical services for pilgrims
  • Availability of doctors and paramedical staff
  • Oxygen and critical care support
  • Regular health check-ups along the yatra route

These measures are expected to improve safety and ensure a smoother pilgrimage experience in the difficult terrain.

Leadership Presence Underscores Strategic Importance

The event was attended by BPCL Chairman and Managing Director Sanjay Khanna, highlighting the strategic importance of the project within the company’s CSR roadmap.

Driving Inclusive Growth Through Healthcare

BPCL’s investment in healthcare infrastructure at Kedarnath aligns with the Uttarakhand government’s broader vision of ensuring accessible and quality medical services in remote regions. The initiative complements ongoing state efforts under schemes like Ayushman Bharat, which has already enabled free treatment for lakhs of beneficiaries.

By establishing critical healthcare infrastructure in one of India’s most visited pilgrimage destinations, BPCL is not only supporting public health but also contributing to sustainable tourism and regional development.

A Model for PSU-Led Social Impact

The Kedarnath hospital stands as a testament to how public sector enterprises like BPCL are playing a transformative role beyond core business operations. With increasing focus on ESG and community impact, such initiatives are setting benchmarks for responsible corporate engagement in India.
